With a roll scanner from data M, roll forming software and various other design and manufacturing modules, Profiltechnik Söll GmbH in Pausa,Vogtland has created a modern center for fabricating rollformed aluminum profiles and tubes. New roll scanner types:

COPRA® RollScanner 100-3 and COPRA® RollScanner 80-3:

The COPRA® RollScanner is a fully automatic measuring device for inspecting existing rolls quickly and accurate. It works contactless so it satisfies the rollforming industry’s big demand for a high-quality control system. There are two new versions available: type 100-3, which is for rolls that have a max. roll diameter of 280 mm and type 80-3 for rolls with a max. diameter of 200 mm. Both have the same wide functionality as type 200-3, but they are smaller (measures: 1mx0.8mx1.65m / weight: 600 kg) and cheaper. The COPRA® RollScanner can be handled very easily and doesn't require computer experience. Why do I need a COPRA® RollScanner?

There is no doubt about the many advantages of CAD/CAM software for the layout of tube mill rolls or roll form tooling.
But does the actual geometry really meet the original design? Even a minor deviation from the original roll contour may result in falty tubes or profiles.

The COPRA® RollScanner generates an accurate set of data of a roll’s true shape. Scanned rolls can be compared immediately to the originally designed contour. This means no more "fire-fightings" due to unexpected and unnecessary long try-outs. Rolls can be reworked even before being put into operation.

Existing stock rolls have a great potential for cost saving if they can be identified and re-used in future projects. Scanned rolls can be stored and retrieved by COPRA® DBMS software with similarity search functions.

This device offers a new way of analyzing and optimizing existing roll sets without having any original drawing. The integrated vision system generates an accurate set of coordinates (also DXF files) of the contour.
With every roll transferred to the COPRA® Database you will also be able to see  the original forming sequence (flower pattern) on your monitor.
